Shackled

Such putrid canker, loathful Cain
Blackened heart of rotting flesh
Stench rising to his nostrils

All he is and all he is not
As husband, father, man and son
His humanity mocked from deep inside

Clear gin poured down his open throat
In futile hopes that he will drown
The laughter of his demon

Joyful mirth of innocent child
Increases depth of demon’s curse
Stands in contrast to his dungeon

(Wide eyes scream in knowing dread
braces for the blows to come
seeing  father’s twisted features)

Iron fists striking without mercy
Blindness of rage transforms man’s sight
As he fights to gain his freedom

With energy spent and chains released
Eyes turn toward blood of fallen foe

As light reveals the guiltless lamb
The laughing demon twists his knife

Battle of the Tempest

Hands grip tight as mighty gusts wrench my being.
Invisible forces tug at inner determination.

I fix my grasp.

Trembling betrays strength’s edge of endurance.
Eyes close, needing full concentration.

I hold fast.

Onslaught of winds diminish in fervor.
Muscles relax in limp liberation.

Battle is over.
