Birth

Storm clouds begin to gather on the horizon.

Humidity fills the air

with the heaviness of anticipation.

The sky darkens as the clouds roll in;

Rumbles of thunder ripple in waves

Across the earth’s belly,

Accented by sharp cracks of lightning.

Momentum builds.

Saturated to their fullest extent,

The clouds are torn open.

The torrent is thrust forth in one

great burst of energy, drenching the earth.

Fulfilled, the dark clouds slip silently to the east.

Gentle rays of sun reappear in the blue sky;

Thunder and lightning are forgotten memories.

That strong torrent of rain has transformed

everything in sight, making it sparkle,

with the fresh beauty of newness.
